Hints & Tips
Are you struggling to maintain your own grass and seeking some valuable advice? Check out some insightful hints and tips from Copeland Garden Services.
Grass Cutting
Before you begin your lawn mowing it is vital to remove any debris that may be scattered across your garden. Not only will this make the process easier, but it also prevents your mower getting clogged up.
A lot of property owners aren’t aware of the importance of the one third rule. This advises that you should never cut off more than a third of the volume of grass or plants at any one time.
Each time you cut your lawn, make sure to use a different mowing pattern. Cutting the lawn in the exact same pattern can increase the wear and tear of the surface, with tyres consistently leaving tracks in the same location. By switching up your mowing patterns, you can ensure your grass is kept fresher and avoids any unnecessary bare patches.
Did you know that when using a strimmer you must operate in a certain direction? Whichever way the strimmer head faces (clockwise or anti-clockwise) you should go in that direction to get the perfect, clean cut.
Weed Handling
Keep your weeds at bay by spreading mulch over areas of your garden. Not only will these keep your plants in good condition by cooling the soil, they also serve to deprive weeds of light to halt their growth.
Putting a weeding schedule in place is crucial for a new garden. This helps you get a hold of the weeds accumulating in your property and understand when best to tackle them.
Be careful when watering your plants and make sure to water efficiently. Ensure you only water plants and don’t spread water across your garden to enrich any weeds which may be festering in your soil.
Watering
You may think your plants need watering, but do a quick check before hand just to make sure. Even if the surface of the soil appears dry, simply press your finger down a few inches near the stem to check for moisture.
Don’t waste water on the leaves or top of your plant. Water your garden efficiently by focusing on the base near the root zone.
Spreading water on cool soil is more beneficial for any garden, with less moisture being lost due to the heat. This is why keen gardeners are advised to water plants and grass at either early morning or late evening when the day’s temperature is at its lowest point.
